Programs
We believe that building relationships with children and their families in Copán Ruinas and providing opportunities for healthy development are keys to breaking cycles of poverty and unemployment. We will provide these opportunities through:
The Afterschool Program will provide a healthy and safe environment for children to learn, grow and achieve their dreams. 50 children will attend afterschool programs for eight months of the year.
The Summer Program will include two exciting and high energy summer camps (four weeks each) reaching 150 children with a purpose of creating new relationships with children and families.
The Youth Leader Program fosters leadership development for youth through mentoring, developing job skills, and providing opportunities to pursue further education.
The Rural Kids Program offers a variety of creative extra-curricular activities as a way of connecting with 20 children in an under-resourced rural community.
UrbanPromise in Honduras seeks to empower the children and youth in our programs by holistically addressing their needs in the following areas:
Nutrition And Health
- To provide participants with a daily nutritional snack and clean drinking water
- To provide annual medical and dental checkups for children in our program
- To give structured lessons on topics regarding HIV/AIDS, health and hygiene
Education
- To improve each child’s academic performance through homework and tutoring
- To increase English language proficiency through ESL instruction
- To offer opportunities for children to learn about various professions and institutes of higher education
- To start a scholarship fund providing high school tuition for at least four youth
Values And The Christian Faith
- To provide discussions on a Christian response to issues central to the community (environment, gender equality, family values)
- To create a safe environment that allows participants to pursue a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and to practice Christian values
- To provide a daily bible/spiritual growth class
Job Training And Leadership Development
- To provide jobs for four committed youth focused on planning, organizing and leading program activities
- To increase knowledge and skills in leadership through professional development classes
- To build a foundation of positive leadership values with children
