AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM
CCM seeks to improve the academic performance of children who struggle in some areas of study, and to provide guidance as well as extracurricular programs for youth.
Objective A- To improve the academic performance of children and equip them with life skills necessary for their day to day lives. The after school program includes 40 children from five different villages. Youth are between the ages of 13 and 21 years old. Children whose performance is below average will receive tutoring three times a week.
Objective B- To provide extracurricular activities that enrich the lives of children and promote physical, mental, and social well-being. Recreational activities, such as soccer and volleyball will help provide safe, healthy, and fun activities for youth during after school hours. In addition to tutoring, spiritual teaching and sports, kids will also learn about HIV/Aids. In turn, these 40 young adults will hopefully act as role models to the children in their respective villages.
EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT FOR YOUNG WOMEN
CCM seeks to employ 10 young women to assist with the work of CCM so that the young women have the tuition needed to continue with school. This program will focus on 10 young women who come from the poorest families and those who are orphans.
Objective A- To promote gender equality in education by employment to 10 young women so that they can afford a high school education. Most families cannot afford to pay for their children to attend high school, particularly for girls. This sponsorship program aims to increase the attendance of girls in school, which has decreased significantly compared to that of boys.
Objective B- To mentor students and prepare them for community leadership. This program also seeks to motivate young women to work hard in their studies. Many young women look down upon themselves and their ability to contribute to society. Our program will mentor and encourage young women to work in their respective villages to bring growth and development.
HIV/AIDS AWARENESS
CCM seeks to raise awareness about HIV/Aids among youth.
Objective A- To train local leaders to educate youth on HIV/Aids. For the duration of two years, Christ Cares Ministry will be committed to offering seminars on HIV/Aids awareness to 20 local leaders (village headmen and religious leaders) from the five surrounding villages. These leaders will be taught how to raise awareness among youth groups in their villages and faith based groups. Our desire is that these seminars will educate people in the community who harbor false ideas and beliefs about the main cause of the HIV/Aids virus. We hope that by the end of this program, approximately one thousand youth from five different villages will be knowledgeable about the disease.
Objective B- To encourage young people to go for Voluntary Testing and Counseling. This service is available at the mission hospital which is in the same community as ChristCares. V.C.T is important because it allows people to find out their HIV status the same day they are tested.
Objective C- To reduce stigmas and false beliefs associated with HIV/Aids. In many villages HIV/Aids is still a taboo subject and discrimination is common. As a result, few people living with Aids make their status known and many have difficulty discussing the subject with their families.
