UPSEL (UrbanPromise School of Entrepreneurial Leadership)
Fellowships with UrbanPromise International include two key components: a one-year internship with UrbanPromise and participation in the UrbanPromise School of Entrepreneurial Leadership (UPSEL).
UPSEL was developed to prepare leaders to initiate youth-serving ministries in their home communities. During their year with UrbanPromise, fellows participate in training related to leadership and non-governmental organization (NGO) development. This includes a variety of formal classes, project development, and practical leadership activities.
- Classes – Classes are primarily lead by Dr. Bruce Main and the Director of Leadership and Development. Other professionals are invited to lead classes related to their area of expertise. Class themes include a variety of subjects from theoretical concepts about management and organizational development to practical steps toward initiating a new ministry.
- Project Development – During the year, students will have the opportunity to develop proposals for new ministries (or new projects supporting existing UPI affiliate ministries). Students are guided through the proposal development process, including developing mission and vision, goals and objectives, and a budget. All proposals will be considered by the UrbanPromise International Board of Directors.
- Practical Leadership – This includes a variety of activities as opportunities arise. Students visit churches regularly to tell people about the work of UPI and to assist in generating support for existing ministries. Students have opportunities to share their personal stories and testimonies. Students also engage in leadership activities that are integrated into their day-to-day work as interns.
