About our Team

Christine Verhulp

Executive Director

In addition to a lengthy career in business in the for-profit and not-for-profit sectors, Christine has actively served children, youth, and communities in various roles ranging from a Children’s Ministry Director to the Executive Director of the Britannia Woods Community House. Christine is excited to be part of a leadership team (urbanpromiseinternational.com) working around the globe with one goal: to provide children and youth with the support needed to succeed academically, grow spiritually, and develop into leaders who can bring positive change to their communities.

Melissa Angandeh

Melissa grew up in the OCH community of Britannia Woods and worked at the Britannia Woods Community House from 2013-to 2017. Melissa is a recent graduate of the Social Work program at Cite Collegiale and is excited for the official launch of UrbanPromise here in our city in Fall 2022. Melissa will co-develop and lead ministry programs and services, mentor and train youth staff, and develop relationships with participants, families, partners, and the community.

  • We offer safe, fun, no-cost Christian Day Camps to children aged 5-14 living in Ottawa Community Housing neighborhoods Our goal is growth in spiritual awareness, academic achievement, and respect for self and others.

  • We invest in young leaders aged 15-19 as they are trained to lead, coached to serve, and required to try their best. Our goal is discipleship and holistic maturity.

  • We multiply impact as young adults aged 20-24 stay connected through 2-way mentorship.

  • We support their launch into the world and encourage them to mentor others. Our goal is strong foundations in church connection, post-secondary education, career path, and community leadership.

  • We establish positive relationships with families, supporting them in their desire to see their children and youth develop into servant leaders and grow in their faith. Our goal is supportive relationships with family now and into the future.

  • We develop strong relationships with other agencies and organizations currently working in Ottawa Community Housing neighborhoods. Our goal is strong communities as we work together to support children and youth.

  • We grow and develop our ministry programs to support children and youth as they mature into leaders. Our goal is the long-term development of their gifts over a span of 20 years (age 5-24).
