My name is Promise. I am the first born in a family of 4 children. My mother got pregnant when she was in grade 10 and she left school as she also lacked fees anyway. I’ve grown up in my uncles house because my mother couldn’t afford to take care of me. My uncle committed suicide earlier last year and then I had to go back to living with my mother. My step father denied me in front of his biological children and that was when I knew that I was born out of wedlock. My mother was employed as a hair dresser but still doesn’t earn enough money to support me and my other 3 sisters who are still in primary school. When I finish school, I want to be a journalist because I want to let Malawians know about their country and I also want to travel around the world. My hobby is singing, and I love to sing praise and worship songs because I believe that it is God alone who can help me achieve my dreams.
I stay in a district close to a lake and this makes it unique as a lot of people and tourist visit the place.
I wake up at 4:50 am and I pray for the day. I do my chores, get a bath and have some breakfast if available on that day and then I go to school. At lunch, I go back home where I sometimes find food but on most days I don’t. After school I go back home and prepare food if available or just go to bed on an empty stomach. This inconsistency makes it hard for me to study or concentrate in class hence my grades have been going down.
My prayer request is to have a better independent future because my mother is always shouting at me to go and live with my father even though I don’t know him, and she always says she is tired of me.
